TISM at Big Day Out - Confirmed (?)
Well, the Triple J website put up the Humphrey B. Flaubert clip from when he was interviewed on Jay and The Doctor. Unfortunately, it's still as foggy as ever if they're playing or not. Here are some (not so) brief transcripts. Boy, that man can waffle: Well, Humphrey, we were wondering if, infact, TISM are playing the Big Day Out, as suggested in this, uh, this, premature press release? Right. Well, look, really, who gives a shit about that? I've heard that Al-Qaeda were going to target this years' Big Day Out, which is a bit of a concern. But then Bin Laden, before he died, heard the new Muse album and theres a track at the end of the album which has this, sort of, bit, that sounds like Thin Lizzy in it. And he's a, you know, big Bin, uh, Bin Laden's a big Thin Lizzy fan, I think you know that. So he called off the plans. And that's, quite, sort of, a relief. I have also heard that the Baader-Meinhof Gang, who were the terrorist group responsible for kidnapping Israeli athletes at the Munich Olympics, they reckon Muse have sold out. So I think that, um, you know really parents you should consider whether you should send your childern to the Big Day Out. I mean, Number One: They could meet someone who thinks that drugs are the answer. Number Two: They could get blown up and Number Three: TISM are performing. Sage advice there. Yeah. At this point, it is still unclear, in black and white terms, if they're playing or not. One of them asks "Which of these three is least likely to happen at this, next, years Big Day Out?" to which Humphrey rolls all over the place and eventually comes around to this: Back to your question: I don't think you should go and see TISM at the big day out, because its just a TISM cover band. It's the keyboardist from TISM and he's got together with some of the guys from Jet and you know what happens when bands have those irreconsilable musical similarities, they start splintering off and this is clearly happening to us at the moment. I've also heard that Radiohead are coming along, they're going to do Muse covers. And The Beatles are coming, they're doing Oasis covers. Oasis will be doing Jet covers. Also heard that Tool will be doing filter covers. That's not covers of the band Filter, I mean they'll actually be fixing the filter cover on Ken West's swimming pool. Because the guys in Tool they're actually pool repair guys. Really? They were originally called Pool. Yeah, exactly! And, also, have you heard that Steve Irwin died? Yes. Humphrey B. Flaubert from TISM. I'm not sure if we've actually gotten any closer to finding out who is playing at the Big Day Out. I've got a feeling that you may be on the fraudulant list, on the more fraudulant side. Has TISM been up to anything lately? Mainly, slowly, moving towards our death is what we've been doing. My facial bone structure is growing, but my skin is shrinking. Right. So my ears, my ear lobes are getting really long. So you know, that's pretty much what's been going on in camp TISM for the moment. Humphrey... uh... good luck! Thanks. Yeah, thanks, thanks, I guess. I'll, uh, take that on board as I head toward my grave. So what we've got here is a few things. One: TISM haven't said no to the Big Day Out. If you listen closely you'll hear he says "TISM are performing" and "I don't think you should see TISM at the Big Day Out" which if you read optimistically between the lines says "I don't think you should see TISM at the Big Day Out ." Also all the stuff after that part seems to indicate a band, who may strike a resounding resemblance to TISM, will be there, but it just wont be worth your time to see them. That says to me, you could see them if you wanted. Also, what we've got there in the interview is a brief insight into what Humphrey B. Flaubert looks like. So if you've all got your goggles on, look for someone in Melbourne with long ear lobes and ask if they are in TISM. Good luck. And lastly we have (and I'm proud to point this out, in a sad way) a TISM foible. Where he claims that The Baader-Meinhof Gang were responsible for kidnapping... etc. You read it already. Well, that's not true. The kidnappings were by the Palestinian terrorists, known as Black Semptember. Baader-Meinhof, as the name might suggest, are actually from Germany. Aha. Ugh... I know... Well, at least you learned something. Right? Right? So yes, quite a haul from a brief conversation and it can be taken that despite the Big Day Out website still revealing nothing (...yet) and Triple J's website announcing the audio clip as "Humphrey B Flaubert tells us TISM are NOT playing the 2007 BDO" it seems like it may be a go-er. Or at least, if it's not concrete, TISM seem positive about negotiations which may be taking place away from prying eyes. Sounds like Tism to me, good enough. It could be a group of Hamas suicide-bombers, screamin' into microphones to the beat of 'Root' with Gerard Way on lead vocals for all I know and care. Flaubert, where ever you are I want you to know that obviously people still don't give two bits of a shit about Tism and nobody is still not buying your records. Good luck...

Wow! That a hefty load there. Listening to the interview it sounds to me like the presenters wanted to tell people that TISM weren't. But that backfired when Humph didn't answer so he had to just stop and actually say he thinks they're not playing, just to give us some clear answer. But we know better. Thanks Jenkins, for that analysis! Very educational... very savvy... That bit about Steve Irwin was gold.

GitBlack- 10-12-2006

Though if they do play they might get held up as suspected Al-Quaeda Extremists.

uneduextrois- 10-14-2006

I don't know WHAT to beleive!

GitBlack- 10-24-2006

Is this website as often-updated as the actual Tism website...? Probably, regardless of whether or not they play the BDO, its been three years now, a new album is imminent.

tyler_j- 10-24-2006

Slowly moving towards our deaths? I'm worried

HolyJoeSmith- 10-28-2006

:tism: As usual another TISM interview that made me LOL :tism:

tyler_j- 10-28-2006

I don't think TISM are as good as they used to be with interviews now but still the most entertaining thing out there

GitBlack- 10-28-2006

I don't know which is worse, a funny interview immediately consigned to the bin or an informative album push...at this point I'd take either or.

ferdinand- 10-28-2006

If Tism do play they'll be band that make the BDO worth going to. Like Iggy Pop last year, but hopefully with more self-mutilation.

tyler_j- 11-03-2006

Knowing tism self mutilation would be cutting off their costumes

tyler_j- 11-03-2006

or "mutilating" their songs
