I'm going. I'm the promoter of the thing. Looking forward to the after party.
Will be lucky to catch Root and SMudge.

Dude! I missed this post. Look out for the short South Aussie if you're around during the set.
That's if they don't boot my arse for stalking them, haha.

Root! confirmed for the Queenscliff Music Festival

Shit! I still don't have anywhere to stay down there. There is a bus to/from the festival from Melbourne this year, but you have to book in advance.
The festival coincides with schoolies week in the area, but they have cracked down in the last couple of years.

ROOT! played a solid little 40 minute set that went down well. Full review soonish. Decent festival but a few things bugged me (lineups!).

Snagged this lovely little snippet from fasterlouder.
Witnessing the nominally country-styled outfit ROOT! is much more than just seeing a band. It’s a little akin to encountering a crazed yet polite preacher. It seems shameful to say it, but the music virtually becomes a subsidiary concern as frontman DC Root wanders among the crowd delivering handshakes and hugs while spouting bite-sized – and biting – lyrics satirising, sending up and tearing down all sorts of golden calves. To be honest, these hilarious verbal muggings are delivered within some fine tunes, but the strongly lyrical bent cannot help but overshadow everything else.
As the festival fades, the little things that bugged me, but I was determined to let them not, basically made me miss out on half the music I wanted to see. When you travel halfway across the country that's a big shame. It also mean that when I was finally able to get a brew or three (more news on that later), it meant that I was coralled in an area that was inevitably away from music I wanted to see. Grrr.
Full review when my brain follows my body back to Adelaide...

Is it a sign of fucking madness to talk to yourself? ;)
Anyway some photos. I have some video due to an accidental slip of the finger, but they're of known songs. I'm kind of glad I only figured out after the gig that I could've got the lot on the camera as I had more than enough space and would have sat there like a dick with the camera for the whole thing...but it would've been good. Someone did record the lot, but I didn't get a chance to ask him about it.
The shithole.
I met some guys with a common interest...please ignore the horrid beer, I tried to. But FAILed.

Don't worry, skip...I talk to myself all the time and I'm not the least bit, umm, crazy! *reb seb yeb shithead, shithead, shithead*
Nice pics...I had tickets to SOS, but dogged it at the last minute due to flu and crap weather.
How did the crowd respond to ROOT!?
skip- 10-15-2008
Initially, I feel much of the crowd was there obviously due to the curiosity factor...but they definitely warmed to them. There are a few audible laughs on the vids I took, and some parts that I didn't (from what I remember). The crowd thickened throughout and there was a big fucking cheer at the end after Tex :)
I will get onto a proper review soon before the already muddied memories fade.
One thing I will say, with a bit more forethought with regard to the setup (I'm loathe to suggest it was a problem with planning and organisation as such, although that may indeed have been an issue), this festival had the potential to be memorable for all the right reasons. As it stands, aspects of it were the worst I've come across in 15 years of going to festivals & raves. It was, however, a pretty good day. The opener of my review currently reads something like The fasterlouder review calls it the 'little festival that could.' I'm more inclined, as a slightly jaded school teacher would, to suggest it was more like the 'little festival, that coulda, shoulda and woulda if he did more homework'.

Of all the songs that someone else took video of, it's one that I did too. See me briefly at 0.45 in the bottom left. This was taken from one of the beer areas...perfect spot to see Root! I would've been there had the lineup at that point not have been an hour or more...
