katie licked a kettle...no fuck thats been done before........................ khaki campbell...one of the most popular breeds of domestic duck. mainly kept for its egg laying ability. good in the garden....but careful of the fertilizer when walking about barefoot! its pale brown in colour and the male develops a green iridescent (spel?) feathery neck. excellent for too many snails.....so maybe the barefoot thing evens out....squealch!

the legbar is an hybrid of a gold and a silver gene carrying birds. in this case usually a white leghorn and a barnevelder, hence the name. this commercial bird was developed for its auto sexing ability....ie. able to distinguish males from females at birth by plumage. sad to say the males arent grown out (nuggets....yum!) and the girls go onto be egglayers. while there is alot to be said for hybid vigour, tis a miserable fate for some. nowdays theres a more popular red hybid, usually called lohmans or isa browns....good for eggs but we really do need to retain the old purebreeds to keep there gene pool some the commercial wankers have somewhere to go when they need a new cross. anyway its been a big day at the farm....5.30 am start and yet another one tommorrow........did you want milk with that?

muscovy. a south american breed of perching goose most always mistaken for a duck. they are usually white withe red caranuncles(i dont think thats the correct spelling) well res fleshy "combs" around the top edge of their bill. they are quite pronounced in the male. they dont quack and eat lots of grass. many eggs are gotten from well fed birds and they are particularly great broody mothers. besides white there is black and white, blue and white bronze and white, black, blue and tri coloured types.has been a long day, especially for a sunday.

another large fowl is the new hampshire. it has rusty red feathers and is one of the breeds used in the afore mentioned isa brown and lohman hybrids. the roosters have beetle green tail feathers. it is a heavy utility breed kept for eggs and meat. like all pure beeds best go to a show and have a look at the many types available.....some are more scarce than others, especially good specimens, and these are called, of course, rare breeds. a big hooray for a day off!

up and atem early black,blue,purple! cant interest you in a job milking cows, certainly not boring....you never know what youre gonna get. hmmm......main reason for fowl here at my place is the clean meat and eggs thingy. same with the cows, pigs and sheep. ever tried guinea fowl? native to africa and quite yummy.....very noisy critters, good at keeping snakes away or at least a snake alarm......sort of like a squeaky axle.....ach ach ach ach but a bit squeakier.

old english game. where do i begin? both large fowl and bantam varieties available.....there would be at least twenty colours classified in the poultry standards. these are hard feathered birds....which means they keep their plumage tight to their body, instead of being fluffy. when cock fighting was made illegal way back years ago, breeders turned to showing to keep 'legitimate' birds. hard feather varieties, including the aussie pit game, are more closely related to the afore mentioned jungle fowl than soft feather fowl....barnevelder, leghorn etc.
